This Viola came in having been dropped and the neck only partially dislodged. Great care had to be taken when easing the neck completely away from the body so as to ensure no further damage. There were two cracks to the ribs and damage to the block to be repaired. The picture shows the neck removed and the joint cleaned prior to glueing.
So the next stage was to make a small cork lined plate to enable the hairline cracks in the block to be glued, and at the same time push the distorted ribs back into position.
Here is the clamp in position
The next stage will be to carefully re-fit the neck into the mortice, glue and clamp securely
Here we are with the neck successfully re-fitted
Ready to go back to the relieved player!
