Viola by A.E. Chanot, London 1914, Mint condition. SOLD
Alfred Ernest Chanot is one of the lesser documented members of this esteemed family of great violin makers. made when he was 28 apparently for his brother in London according to the two original label’s inside.

This instrument is one of the finest preserved we have ever seen, beautifully figured wood as shown, it even has the maker’s original bridge still fitted.

Rushworth and Dreaper, Liverpool, `The Apollo` circa 1890.                16 1/8″

Superb condition English Viola by Betts circa 1800 bearing a small label ‘Repaired by F. LOTT London’
This is a very rare and fine example of English work of the period in absolutely exceptional condition.

Betts employed some of the most highly regarded violin makers including Panormo, Lockey Hill, Richard Tobin, B.S. Fendt and John Furber to name but a few.

Our viola is in a wonderful state of preservation, even having the original neck lengthened at the block.

The length of back is 15 11/16″ or 398mm so an ideal size for someone with a smaller hand or for the player swapping between violin and viola more regularly.
